Shenzhen Bay Art Installation

Project Overview:

This iconic landmark stands as a testament to the fusion of art and engineering. Commissioned by a leading developer, the 20-meter structure serves as the focal point of the new Shenzhen Bay commercial district, embodying the fluidity of the ocean.

The Challenge

The primary challenge for the Shenzhen Bay project was fabricating a 20-meter tall stainless steel structure that appeared weightless. The complex double-curved surfaces required extreme precision to ensure seamless connections between the 150 individual panels.

Additionally, the installation site experienced high wind loads (Typhoon zone), meaning our internal structural engineering had to be robust while remaining invisible.

Our Solution

We employed advanced 5-axis CNC forming to shape the primary ribs. Instead of traditional manual hammering (which lacks precision), we developed a custom digital jig system.

For the surface finish, we achieved a Ra 0.05 mirror polish through a 7-stage hand-polishing process, ensuring flawless reflections of the surrounding bay area.
